Learning App - Renewable Energy

Our learning app for renewable energy, specifically designed for elementary school children aged 8 to 10, was an exciting and educational project that I would like to showcase in my portfolio. This project was implemented in close collaboration with my classmate Anna Ligon as part of the 'Interactive Communication Systems' course. Its aim is to introduce children to the world of renewable energy in a playful and informative manner.

Our app was made to help with school lessons and give teachers a useful tool to teach renewable energy to students in a fun way. We put different ways of teaching and interactive exercises into the app to make sure students really understood the ideas of renewable energy. This included quizzes where students had to use what they learned. We also made fun tasks that helped with learning and were enjoyable.

A special and fun part of the app was our avatar, a character that went along with kids on their learning adventure. This avatar guided students through different parts of the app and encouraged them. Our project was not only hard from a technical side but also well thought out for teaching. By getting feedback during tests, we could make some things better, and that's how we got to this result.

Storyboard

To understand exactly what information should be shared with the children and how, it was important for us to collect our ideas. Each of us drew a storyboard on our own, and then we talked about it. Afterward, we created a new storyboard that included all the ideas we liked.

Styleguide

Stylistic features

We finally chose these colors because they give off a friendly and playful feeling. With these colors, we can create everything we need, including fun animations and other drawings.

Buttons

Our advertising buttons are all in our selected company colors so that they match the overall appearance. We design the buttons large and with prominent font. If the child takes longer breaks, we scale them larger and smaller at short intervals so that they appear like a blink. They are intended to encourage students to type. This means that as a user you always know what to do.
